Dept of Physics

Vision

Vision

The ultimate goal of the Department of Physics is to bring Eminence and Excellence in Teaching and Learning processes, and to fetch ours as one of the Benchmark Departments with potential for academic excellence.

Mission

Mission

To execute the teaching profession to bring the students as an asset for a productive and fascinating career, successful in their life, and to realize the learning with real-world experience.

“The art of teaching is the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds”.

  • Learn to face Life’s Challenges with Confidence
  • Lay the foundations for great achievements through inspirational learning at our campus
  • What you learn, what you experience at NGM shapes you, your thinking & attitude.

The Department of Physics was established in the year 1958. The objective of teaching by our committed faculty is to enable the students to get along without a teacher. Such an objective has created a lot of excellent academicians and scientists, throughout the Globe. Outsized numbers of our Alumni are vibrant in teaching and research in the diverse fields of Physics. At present, we are offering B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D., Programmes. All our academic activities are well planned in the Annual calendar. The introduction of autonomy in the academic year 1987-88 is helping a lot to redesign the curriculum periodically, to smarten the content of the syllabi, which is compatible in tune with the recent developments in Physics. Every aspect of life involves choices. NGM is inspiring the learners by providing informed choices, under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the Academic year 2004-05 onwards. The CBCS always ensures to supplement to the scientific arena, by learning Interdisciplinary, Extra disciplinary and Life / Job-oriented courses in addition to the Core subjects. The introduction of outcome based education in the academic year 2017 – 18 enhances the curriculum and very much useful for the students to learn the concepts with utmost interest and involvement.

Highlights

To promote higher education students are motivated to participate in summer research/training programme in reputed institutions like IGCAR, NPL, IUCAA etc.
Postgraduate students are encouraged to do high quality projects enabling them to pursue research in and around India.

Association

Association activities of the Department intends to create an impact to highlight the inner potential and determination of the students to move forward to face the challenges and threats posed by the emergence of a highly competitive and technological world. In order to update the students with the emerging science and technologies, experts from reputed institutions and industries are invited to present lectures on the area of their expertise. To promote organizational skills, leadership quality, problem-solving, computational and presentation skills seminars by the students for the students are conducted last hour of every fifth day order. Apart from all these activities, students are guided to present papers in seminars/conferences/workshops and participate in quiz competitions of other institutions and colleges.
