Bharat Ratna C. Subramaniam Centenary Library of NGM College is named after Shri C. Subramaniam, former union minister of finance, who had keen interest in the establishment of the College. It was instituted along with the institution in the year, 1957. It is situated in the eastern part of the sprawling campus facing west. The Central Library aims at enhancing readership and encourage the research and academic activities in the College by rendering information service to all kind of users. The library is a central facility in the college and is fully automated with OPAC (online Public Access Catalogue) system. The Library has a stock of more than 64,000 books, including 52,000 titles and a supply of 63 journals and 45 magazines. CD/DVDs, e-journals, on-line database and audio-video cassettes are also available for reference installed CCTV.

MISSION

The Central Library of  NGM College is to support and enhance the activities of the college by serving the curricular and information needs of its students, faculty, staff and community at large. The library strives to encourage individual advancement and life long learning by providing access to a wide range of information in a variety of formats, quality services with modern facilities and state of art technology.


VISION

Right Information at Right Time to the Right Users.
All the students are expected to become registered members of the library.
All the students will have closed access for borrowing books.
Degree & Intermediate students are entitled to borrow a maximum of two books respectively
The borrowed books should be returned within 15 days as stamped on the due-date slip.
An overdue charge of 50 paisa per book per day will be collected from the defaulter.
Defaulters will not be allowed to borrow books unless they clear the over dues.
Students are neither allowed to sub-lend the books they have borrowed nor borrow on behalf of another.
While borrowing library books, students are expected to check the condition of the books. If any damage is noticed, it must be reported at the issue counter immediately. Or else, the borrower will be held responsible for any damage noticed at the time of return.
In case of serious damage to a book, the borrower has to replace the book.
The loss of library books should be immediately reported to the Librarian.
Journals will not be issued as a rule.
On entering the library, personal books and belongings should be deposited at the property counter.
Presentation of the Identity card is compulsory for using the reference library.
The books in the reference library must be handled with care.
Students are advised to leave the reference books on the table itself after use.
The reference books are to be used only within the reference section.
The library will be opened half an hour before the commencement of classes and kept for one hour after the classes.
The reference library is kept open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Silence must be observed in the premises of the library

Library Automation

Library system is fully automated to facilitate wider and deeper acquisition of information, to improve the existing services, to introduce new information services and to retrieve stored information easily. Library software is developed with different modules.

OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue)

This module provides different types of search facilities such as individual search of books by author or title, or subject or any word, search of Journals received, search of library holdings of back volumes, search of Articles published in backvolumes.

Acquisition


This module facilitates the Library staff to procure and process new Books.

Circulation

This module includes all the circulation activities of Library such as issue, return, renewal,  automatically generate reminders for overdue books.

Virtual Theatre

In order to make learning, a joyous exercise and to seed creative skills among the students, a virtual theatre, a unique facility is established in the library. A stock of multimedia CDs / DVDs are available in this section. Faculty members and students can avail of this facility. They can play the disks during this leisure hours / post college hours to enrich their knowledge and to gain special skills in presenting the subjects.

DELNET Service

Developing Library Network (DELNET) is an Operational Library Network with the membership of more than 1300 libraries in and out of India. It provides on-line access to more than eighty lakh bibliographic records of books, journals and articles and inter and intra library loan and document delivery service to exchange books and copies of journals and articles.

INFLIBNET Service

Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) is an online union catalogue of books, theses, serials and video recordings available in Indian universities and inter-university centres of UGC. It supports to browse and download bibliographic records and to access and import materials from ‘N-LIST’ (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) programme funded by MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource and Development), which includes more than 2100 e-journals and 51,000 e-books.

The INFLIBNET service can be accessed at http://nlist.inflibnet.ac.in by clicking INFLIBNET online and by supplying users’ ID and password, already issued to them.

Serial Control

This module is designed and developed to maintain a database of backvolumes and isssues of Journals available in the library. It includes different activities such as subscription of Journals, receiving, renewal of Journals. It is developed to maintain a database of various articles indexed in the library.

 

Loss of ID cards and Books

      • A penalty of Rs.10/- will be charged for loss of library ID cards.
      • On losing a borrowed book the user has to replace it with the latest edition of the same book or to pay double cost of the book.
      • The penalty charges are to be paid in the office cash counter, while obtaining the ‘Clearance Certificate’ at the end of the final semester.

The application of Barcoding system is principally quite suitable for circulation job of library.

DELNET (Developing Library Network)

The Library has been one of the Member libraries of Delnet since 2000. Delnet maintains an online union catalogue of Books, E-Journals and other non book materials available in 1017 Member Libraries.Delnet offer any book or any reading materials available in the databases to the Members of College Library through its Inter library loan Document Delivery Services

CD ROMS

CD ROM has provided new dimension to information storage. The Library has 1400 CDs on various subjects.

1. CIRCULATION SECTION

2. NEW ARRIVAL SECTION
New titles and new editions are displayed for one month to attract the students and staff members to update their knowledge.

3. STACK SECTION 
There are around 50 thousand books for lending. The books are classified according to the colon classification. Bay guides are available for easy access. Closed access system is followed which goes a long way to help the readers in locating books and making search easy.

4. READING SECTION 
It is a spacious and ventilated area for comfortable reading.

5. PERIODICAL SECTION 
A separate section is available for Periodicals and magazines. The latest issue of Journal / Magazine will be exhibited outside in the respective shelves. Previous issues will be in order for ready reference.

6. REFERENCE SECTION 
There are more than 2000 reference books including Encyclopedias, Dictionaries and Hand Books (General, Science and Technologyl) on all branches of Arts and Science and humanities. The reference section is equipped with glass cupboards which is closed access. Apart from reference books, the library includes sources like GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, GATE, CAT, MAT, IELTS etc. It provides ready reference to those who appear for screening tests.
Book Bank
This section caters to the needs of students who avail the post-matric scholarship offered by the Government of India. Eligible students can avail six books at a time. The books are issued for a period of one semester and can be retained till the end of each semester.

  2. Back Volumes                – Bound volumes of previous issues of journals  are available.
  3. Digital Sources              – CDs and DVDs are available
  4. Reprography Section    – Photocopying of library materials on payment   of one rupee per
    page to a maximum of 10  pages is provided


7. DIGITAL LIBRARY SECTION 
There are 25 computers exclusive for online journal and e resources access. Digital accesses are much easier to search from archives and back volumes to get their relevant articles and information within short span of time.

10. INTERNET / DELNET SERVICES 
Online Electronic Database like IEEE, ACM, ASME and ASCE, ACI are available. Proquest science online journals are also available in CD-ROMs.

Section Working Time

Library services starts from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on the week days.

General Working Time

Library is kept open on the week days from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Saturdays 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

However the Library is kept closed on public holidays & Sundays.
